One windy Wednesday afternoon in early June, wearing
black jeans and my favorite Calvin Klein cardigan, and being in that familiar
mood of craving for San Francisco noise, smell and energy, I went for a long walk
along Montgomery street. A delight seemed to sparkle in every window of its
skyscrapers. I paused and watched and was charmed by the rise of the buildings
toward the unexpected miracle of the clear blue sky.
