Michael Kors brings on the Desert Chic to the Wine Country

My early August slipped by in a haze - a haze of long evenings of driving Healdsburg side roads and wine tasting with friends. Sonoma County is a land of beautiful vineyards and great wines, where a single glass of wine can be a real pleasure and expression of life, where the shades of afternoon skies and sunsets seem to reflect only happy moods.

One evening, while driving into Santa Rosa through the ache of a setting sun, I thought how well a new Michael Kors ready-to-wear collection "Desert Chic" fits into the nature of the Wine Country. This collection is inspired by a cool sensibility, adding a chic twist on graphic camouflage. The season's natural palette infuses earthy cream, khaki, olive and camel with bold accents of orange and green.

It was hot at four and still hot at five. It seemed that in this heat nothing mattered. It seemed that all  life of the Historic Dry Creek Valley was weather, a long awaiting for the cool breeze from the ocean when events had no significance.

But not this time! It was 5th Annual Chardonnay and Lobster Dinner at Sbragia Family Vineyards and a glass of refreshing Sauvignon Blanc in my hand was cool and caressing. Growing anticipation for the newly released Chardonnay and fresh Maine lobster was trembling in the air. The place was heaven...      

Gamba Vineyards and Winery: Precious Old Vine Zinfandel

It is a quite Tuesday afternoon in Windsor, my husband and I are visiting Gamba Vineyards and Winery and sipping truly delicious Old Vine Zinfandel. I am in love lately with the Russian River Valley Zinfandel wines and Gamba's Old Vine Zinfandel is my latest and precious discovery. I don't really know how and why it happens, but I just know instantly when the wine is great and made for me. There is that certain something I enjoy the most - the strong allure of the aromas and the silky and smooth texture, full of that old Zinfandel only spice.   

Gamba Vineyards and Winery is a wonderful story of over six generations of wine grape growing with a belief that wines are made in the vineyards. Agostino Gamba, with his rare charisma and magnetism of passionate winemaker, is dedicated to continuing his family's wine grape farming tradition. He and his wife Paulette skillfully manage the vineyards and winery with a strong and forward-thinking simplicity of their mission - to grow grapes and produce delicious wines.

The wines that I am going to serve for dinner! My husband and I were so impressed with the quality of wines - Gamba 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel - Gamba Estate Vineyard, Russian River Valley and Gamba 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel - Starr Road Ranch, Russian River Valley - that we are going to join the Gamba Wine Club! 

Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery in the afternoon

My husband and I are very fortunate to live in a place that attracts not only national and international stars, but most importantly our dearest friends. We enjoy tremendously their visits and our wine tasting tours. Thank you again for coming!

This was Ferrari-Carano winery in the afternoon. We went our way through the sunshine and the fresh air, wondering through the gardens. It was delightful to see the green lands and flowers before us. It was one of those lovely, but irregular gardens, where you go left and right, up and down, stepping out of one little charming place into another. We were enchanted with the old trees filtering light onto the flowers and bubbling ponds.

For that bright afternoon the main house welcomed us with a rush of feeling that was almost overwhelming. The sunlight dripped over the house like golden gauzy curtain, and the shadows here and there only increased the impression of the theater. The theater of wines. Don and Rhonda Carano have perfected the art of creating the finest gardens and the finest wines, which requires great skill and passion. But you don't have to be a professional to appreciate the view and delicious wines :)

My favorites from the wine list are 2013 Sauvingnon Blanc, Sonoma County, 2011 Pinot Noir, Green Valley, and Zinfandel dessert wine Baci, which infused with natural dark chocolate flavor. 

Crazy About Midi Skirts

I started to feel thrilled about Spring and Summer 2014 the second I laid my eyes on midi skirts. There was Joseph Altuzarra with his breathtaking effortlessness, there was Prabal Gurung with his celebration of the elegant woman and Marilyn Monroe as his muse, and there was Michael Kors with Kate Hepburn and Meryl Streep on his mind.

Солнце растопило весну в лето и улицы Сан Франциско мгновенно расцвели девушками как мой сад цветами. Раз в неделю я приезжаю в сити по делам и каждый раз стараюсь вырваться на прогулку по центральным улицам. Сан Франциско - редкий американский город, где можно гулять пешком в любое время и в любом направлении. Особенно мне нравится  бродить по городу на переломе времен года и узнавать в обликах прохожих приметы нового сезона. Вот и вчера утром я залюбовалась девушкой, что спешила мне навстречу в супер модной юбке длины миди, простой белой маечке с длинным рукавом и римских сандалях с легкими перекладинками на плоской подошве. Читается отголосок 70-х, но цветные и причудливые татуировки на лодышках, яркая и броская бижутерия, плоская подошва босоножек, веселый микс дешевого и дорогого делают образ очень современным.

Мне настолько понравилось как юбка девушки вьется и играет вокруг ног, как открыта и изящна ее лодышка, как обувь становится акцентом всего наряда, что по возвращении домой я села за машинку и укоротила две свои длинные юбки. И в этот же вечер одну из них надела на ужин с друзьями. Полное блаженство! Можно сесть в машину, подняться по лестнице, присесть на корточки и не споткнуться и не наступить на подол! Юбка остается длинной и женственной, но появляется чувство такой свободы движений, что невозможно не улыбаться.       

Такое впечатление, что длинна "миди" утверждает себя не только на подиумах планеты, но уже в магазинах и на улицах. И вот я сама тому пример :) Из многих коллекций Весны 2014 я выбрала для иллюстрации этого тренда несколько образов, что мне показались интересными и легли на душу.

Joseph Altuzarra - мой любимец. В его работах читается слияние двух культур в моде, что мне особенно дороги: обаяние французского стиля и комфорт американского. Joseph родился во Франции, где мальчиком 8 лет учился балету, потом - арт колледж в Филадельфии, работа в домах моды "Marc Jacobs" и "Proenza Schouler" в Нью Йорке, снова Париж и работа асситентом Riccardo Tisci в "Givenchy". В 2008 Joseph решается на серьезный шаг и создает свою собственный бренд "Altuzarra" и базирует его в Нью Йорке. Весенняя его коллекция меня просто заворажила - за кажущейся простотой сочетания юбок, блузок и жакетов читается талант и мастерство создателя. Приходят на память стихи Раи Янкелевич: " За кажущейся простотой таится сложность созиданья, неотвратимого сознанья, что ты не грешник, а святой"... 

 

Prabal Gurung - еще один яркий молодой американский дизайнер, за работой которого я с интересом слежу. Prabal родился в Сингапуре, учился в школе в Непале, учился дизайнерскому ремеслу в Индии. В 1999-м он переезжает в Нью Йорк, где продолжает учиться и одновременно работает в доме моды "Donna Karan". Вслед за успехом работы директором по дизайну в "Bill Blass", Prabal создает свой бренд и первую свою коллекцию показывает на New York Fashion Week в феврале 2009-го. Музой для весенней коллекции этого года он выбрал Marilyn Monroe и воспел образ элегантной женщины, который, по его мнению "вымирает" и требует защиты и прославления. При этом он добавил идею розы как красоты с шипами :)

Michael Kors - признанный мэтр и классик американской моды. Но признаюсь, что в последние годы его работы мне казались однообразными и даже немного скучными. Коллекция же Весны 2014 поражает оптимизмом, женственностью, упоительным настроением любви. А платья так просто расчудесные! Особенно те, где миди длина, ткань в мелкий рисунок и пышный рукав аля 70-е.  

Dancing through The Windsor Day Parade

On a warm and sunny morning in May my husband and I drove to Windsor Town Green to watch The Windsor Day Parade.

By ten o'clock the bright-costumed kids crowded the streets with their bands and dancers. There was a stage, where a few gray-haired veterans sat and smiled quietly while the groups of cheering and dancing people swept by in panorama of Windsor life.
